The highly respected USA News and World Report ranked the 2018 Mazda CX-5 as No. 2 in the compact SUV class. It also ranked second in SUVs with two rows and crossover SUVs. In addition, the combination of quality and value made it a finalist for 2018 Best Compact SUV for the Money.

Handling
Handling is one area where the CX-5 really excels over other SUVs. The steering is more heavily weighted at higher speeds, giving it a positive, sporting feel. Because it is sharp and responsive, corners can be taken at greater speeds without any feeling of being out of control. Rapid left-to-right changes leave the Mazda unfazed. However, at low speeds it’s never hard to turn and maneuvering around the parking lot is easy.
Under moderate acceleration, the automatic transmission doesn’t change into a higher gear too soon and, in Sport mode, it holds a lower gear until you really ease off the gas.

The CX-5 has safety equipment fitted as standard that is optional on its rivals, such as low-speed frontal collision warning with mitigation, advanced blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert. Other standard safety features include front and side air bags, and side air curtains with rollover protection, ABS with electronic force distribution and brake assist, traction control, electronic stability control, and LED headlights.
Adding Mazda’s available “i-Activsense” package to the base Sport trim gets you automatic high beams, automatic wipers, adaptive cruise control, higher speed forward collision warning, and lane keep assist with lane departure alert.
Touring trim features i-Activsense as standard, while the top-of-the-range Grand Touring adds LED tail lights and front fog lights.

Interior
The well-equipped cabin of the CX-5 has a refined and upscale feel featuring high-quality materials. The Sport trim has cloth upholstery with 40/20/40 split one-touch folding rear seats, leather wrapped gear knob, and leather steering wheel with phone, audio, and cruise controls. For your convenience, there is illuminated remote keyless entry and push-button start.
Touring models add dual-zone automatic climate control and simulated leather upholstery with heated front seats and power adjustable driver’s seat. Grand Touring trim features leather upholstery with power passenger seat and memory driver’s seat.
