Pretty soon, Mazda will be rolling out the newest member of its lineup: the 2022 Mazda MX-30. We’re excited to see exactly what this brand-new model will be bringing to the streets. Here is what we know so far about this all-new Mazda model.
What is the MX-30?
The 2022 Mazda MX-30 is an all-electric SUV, the first production electric vehicle in the Mazda family. A plug-in hybrid model will be made available for the 2023 model year. This new subcompact SUV model will give electric drivers a powerful new option for the 2022 model year.
The MX-30 takes many of its styling cues from Mazda’s CX SUV series. The elegant lines that make up the SUV’s body do away with the superfluous angles and grooves you find on many SUV models pretending to be sportier than they are these days. The MX-30 features pillarless freestyle doors. These coach-style doors have conventional front doors that fold over rear doors that open toward the back on a rear hinge.
Power
The MX-30 is slated to be outfitted with a front-mounted motor that produces 144 horsepower and draws its power from a 35.5-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The first MX-30 will be offered exclusively with a front-wheel-drive system. Mazda has not yet announced whether the hybrid version will be offered with the drivetrain.
Mazda has designed the MX-30 to offer an exceptionally smooth experience for its drivers. The electric G-Vectoring Control Plus system gives the driver an enhanced connection to their MX-30 through steering wheel responsiveness and precision. Mazda has partnered with ChargePoint to give drivers access to thousands upon thousands of charging stations around the world and to make charging at home easier and faster.
The plug-in hybrid version of the MX-30 is slated to be equipped with a rotary engine and electric motor. Said rotary engine hasn’t been in a production vehicle since Mazda’s RX-8, which was discontinued in 2012.
Interior Excellence
Mazda has extended the eco-conscious treatment to the cabin materials. The materials Mazda is using to craft the MX-30’s interior will be sustainable options, including cork and recycled fabrics. Very little information past that has been released about the MX-30’s interior, so be sure to stay tuned for updates as they are released.
When Can I Drive It?
The 2022 Mazda MX-30 will be released in California in the fall of 2021. Its availability will spread to other states sometime in 2022. The 2023 MX-30 plug-in hybrid version will be released sometime in 2022, but no further information has been released about it at the time of this writing.
