Engine Specifications
Each 2024 Miata is powered by a SKYACTIV-G two-liter VVT engine with four cylinders and 16 valves. The sporty convertible generates 181 horsepower and 151 lb.-ft. of torque. The roadster’s accompanying valve train features its own VVT program, with four valves per cylinder and chain-driven dual-overhead cams. This year’s Miata achieves 34 miles per gallon on the highway, rivaling even the top vehicles in the sedan class.
Every 2024 model pairs the premium engine with a SKYACTIV six-speed manual transmission that includes a short-throw shifter for faster gear changes.
Build
The rear-wheel-drive Miata’s engine is situated in the front half of the vehicle, providing balance and stability. Higher trim levels boast an asymmetric limited-slip differential capable of sensing the vehicle’s torque, and every model is built with a unibody construction that includes a backbone and subframes for the front and rear suspension. The double-wishbone front suspension features monotube dampers and aluminum control arms, while the multi-link rear suspension has its own monotube dampers and aluminum bearing supports.
In addition to standard four-wheel disc brakes, the newest Miata includes 11-inch single-piston vented brake calipers in the front and 11-inch single-piston solid brake calipers in the rear. The standard anti-lock braking system includes four channels with the Brake Assist and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution programs.
