Maintaining Your Mazda’s SKYACTIV Engine: 6 Service Tips

Check Your Coolant

Continuous cooling is a must with any combustion engine. The very effective cooling system in your Mazda depends on the coolant, so check this vital fluid monthly and flush it every two or three years. If your coolant ever turns brown from contamination, you’ll need to flush it early.

Test Your Cooling System

The rest of the cooling system, which includes the radiator, thermostat, cooling fans, heater core, and hoses, must be pressure-tested at least once a year to make sure each component, seal, and connection is sturdy. This test will uncover any worn parts or nascent leaks so they can be fixed and the engine protected.

Change Your Motor Oil

Motor oil lubricates the engine’s internal components and minimizes friction. In doing so, it helps keep heat under control. Your engine will need fresh oil every six months or so.

If you’re a particularly active driver or drive in conditions that strain your engine, schedule more frequent oil changes. The last thing you want is to leave it too long, which would allow the oil to age and the engine to wear prematurely.

Look for Oil or Coolant Leaks

Leaking oil or coolant would put your engine at immediate risk. It’s a good idea to build a habit of checking for leaks. Glance under your car for puddles on the garage floor. Also, raise the hood to check if you can see or smell leaking fluid; coolant has a sweet smell, and leaking motor oil will often create a burning smell as it runs over heated components.

Replace Worn Spark Plugs

A few parts inside the engine must be replaced occasionally. Spark plugs will usually last at least 30,000 miles and sometimes much longer, depending on the plug type and your driving habits. You’ll also need to replace ignition coils and fuel filters periodically.

Book Yearly Tune-Ups

If you schedule a yearly engine tune-up, our technicians can keep an eye on all engine parts and carry out timely replacements. We’ll check the oil, oil filter, coolant, ignition coils, spark plugs, fuel filter, and run a full diagnostic test.

Schedule Routine Mazda SKYACTIV Maintenance
