Lease, Buy, or Pre-Owned – What’s Best For You?

When you set out to buy a car, you’re planning one of the most significant purchases of your life. Many people think that buying the newest car is going to give them the best bang for their buck, but that’s not always true. We’ll talk about buying pre-owned, leasing, and buying new, so you can decide what the best choice is for you.
Buying Pre-Owned
If you’re on a tighter budget, buying a used vehicle is a great option. You’ll find much lower prices than you would for a new car. Many dealerships also offer Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) vehicles, which will generally provide you with a warranty that is similar to what they’d offer on a new vehicle.
However, you may have fewer options when purchasing a used vehicle, and while your loan may be lower, you may find your interest rate is higher. But with patience and a little elbow grease, purchasing a used car can be one of the best options for both your wallet and your vehicle’s long-term value.
Buying New
One of the most obvious benefits of buying a new vehicle is that you’ll have your pick of cars off the lot, with the ability to customize your model of choice to meet your needs. You won’t have to worry about the history of the vehicle, and you’ll get the best warranty available from the dealership. New vehicles will often come with the best in safety and comfort technology and the most modern amenities.
Of course, a new car will also set you back the most in terms of cost. You’ll have to afford a higher down payment so that you’re not underwater on your loan (owing more than the car is worth). And a new car depreciates the most in the first few years of ownership. But if you want a vehicle that perfectly fits your needs and you’ve got the budget for it, buying new could be for you.
Leasing
If you like the idea of a new car, but don’t like the idea of paying the higher cost, you may want to consider leasing. Instead of paying for the full value of a new car, you’d be paying for the amount the vehicle is expected to depreciate during your lease term, plus interest and fees.
You won’t own the vehicle and will need to follow the rules set by your leasing company, which often includes usage and mileage limitations. However, leasing will let you get behind the wheel of a new car every 2-3 years and can be a great option if you want the benefits of a new vehicle without the long-term commitment of a loan.
Whether you choose to buy new, pre-owned or lease your vehicle, you’ll want to work with a dealership that understands your needs and desires. It all comes down to your budget, how flexible you are on your amenities, and whether or not you want to own your car at the end of the day.
Do More With the Mazda CX5 Diesel

While diesel-powered automobiles have been popular in Europe for decades, they are just recently becoming available in the United States. Although diesel is generally more expensive than traditional gasoline, the fuel economy is often considerably greater. This explains the popularity of the diesel powertrain in Europe, where gasoline is considerably more expensive than it in the United States.
The Mazda CX-5 Diesel
After many years of speculation, Mazda is finally bringing a diesel powertrain version of the CX-5 crossover to the United States market. The diesel engine will be a modified version of the 2.2-liter power plant in the European version. To bring it to North America, and specifically the United States, Mazda had to engineer the engine to comply with the strict emissions standards that don’t exist elsewhere in the world.
In Europe, the 2.2-liter diesel makes up to 173 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Design alterations and improvements for the American market could increase those numbers, which will result in a capable and fun-to-drive vehicle. Mazda has also indicated they have developed systems to keep the engine quiet and intrusive noise out of the cabin. Add that to the already-versatile package that is the CX-5 and what results is a segment standout.
How Does a Diesel Engine Work?
In a gasoline engine, a spark ignites the fuel and air mixture, pushing the piston down and powering the engine. The gas is atomized and injected into the combustion chamber, mixed with air, and the spark creates the ignition.
Diesel engines work differently. The compression stroke only compresses the air, which elevates its temperature. When the air is completely compressed, the atomized diesel is injected into the cylinder, igniting immediately from the surrounding heat. There is no spark needed for a diesel engine. Diesel also burns more efficiently than gasoline. This results in more power from less fuel, and thus, increased fuel economy.
Benefits of Diesel
Alternative fuels are not new to the automotive world. Hybrid systems and even completely electric cars have been around for several years. However, to many people, there is something appealing about the traditional combustion engine. Diesel combines the best of both worlds: increased fuel economy while still having a traditional engine.
At the time of this writing, it is unclear exactly when the CX-5 diesel will be available. Various outlets have reported that Mazda indicates they are committed to bringing the diesel powertrain to the United States. Moreover, there has been speculation that Mazda is working with the EPA and CARB to achieve final approval for the engine and its emissions system. When the CX-5 Diesel does launch, it is sure to be not only a standout in the midsize crossover segment but a fun-to-drive alternative to gasoline power.

CX-3
The smallest and least expensive crossover offering is the CX-3. But despite its small size, it still has plenty to offer. Powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with Skyactiv technology, the CX-3 produces 148 horsepower and 146 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is optional.
The base Sport model comes well-equipped with power windows and locks, keyless entry, and push-button start. A 7-inch color touch screen is standard on the Mazda Connect infotainment system, which is Aha, Pandora, and Stitcher capable. Six speakers are standard, and a Bose 7-speaker premium audio system is optional.
Inside, there is seating for five or up to 44.5 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded (41.7 cubic feet in the Grand Touring model). A rear backup camera and Blind-Spot Information system are standard. CX-5

The CX-5 is equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with cylinder deactivation, producing 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. A turbocharged four-cylinder is also available, producing up to 250 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is optional but standard on the Grand Touring Reserve and Signature models.
Inside, the CX-5 has plenty of comfort and technology features to offer. A 10-speaker Bose audio system with built-in navigation is available, as is Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration. Dual-zone automatic climate control is also available. The range-topping Signature model also features heated and ventilated front seats with heated rear seats.
CX-9
The largest of the Mazda crossovers is the CX-9. With seating for seven and available all-wheel drive, the CX-9 offers a family-sized alternative to the boring minivan. All models are powered by a 2.5-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which creates up to 250 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard; all-wheel drive is also available but standard on the Signature model.

All models also feature the Mazda Connect touch-screen infotainment system with either a 7- or 8-inch screen. A 12-speaker Bose audio system is also available.

The Impressive Power of the 2019 Mazda Miata

The 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata is as classy as they come. This fourth-generation convertible roadster comes in three stylish soft-top trims, the Sport, Club, and Grand Touring, along with a bold RF edition with a retractable hardtop. From the ground up, this two-passenger sports car boasts a polished outer shell as well as a dynamic chassis full of energetic performance. From its robust engine to its excellent fuel efficiency, here’s how the 2019 Mazda Miata continues to amplify its road presence.
Impressive Wheel Setup
First in line is the base Sport trim, which drives on a set of 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheels dipped in a Metallic Black finish plus high-performance tires for smooth clearance. It also features a wheelbase of 90.9 inches and a ground clearance of 4.92 inches, which is actually quite desirable for a convertible. The Club and RF editions jump to 17-inch wheels and a heightened ground clearance of 5.32 inches. The Grand Touring finishes with a Dark Silver wheel finish.
Powerful Engine Specs
Each trim boasts a SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter, 16-valve four-cylinder engine under the hood. This unit features an aluminum-alloy base, a dual-overhead camshaft, and electronically controlled fuel injection. The result of such a compelling hardware bundle? A power output of 181 horsepower at 7,000 revolutions per minute (rpm) and 151 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm. This four-cylinder further pairs with a six-speed manual transmission or six-speed automatic with paddle shifters.
Efficient Speed Ratings
According to automotive industry digest Car and Driver, the Miata reaches a top speed of 140 mph with minimal drag. It also hits an acceleration rate of 0 to 60 mph in a mere 5.7 seconds. Going up to 100 mph extends the time frame to 16.1 seconds, while a speed of 120 mph takes about 27.7 seconds to maintain. As for stopping power, you’ll need around 170 feet to make a complete stop when traveling from 0 to 70 mph.
Capable Powertrain Components
Keeping your convertible roadster running smoothly on a daily basis is a compilation of Mazda-tuned hardware equipped for your basic road adventure. The Miata runs in rear-wheel drive and features a chassis backed by rack-and-pinion steering with electric power assist, four-wheel disc brakes with locking resistance, and electronic brake force distribution.
If that isn’t quite convincing, this sports car also bears a double-wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear suspension, both with monotube dampers for minimal vibration backlash, as well as a few package upgrades, such as Brembo front brakes and a front shock tower brace.
Top-Notch Fuel Efficiency
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Mazda Miata’s fuel economy ratings for the city stay consistent across the board at 26 mpg, while the estimates for highway driving range from 34 mpg with the manual transmission to 35 mpg with the automatic. Helping you keep track of it all is a full instrumentation cluster with easy-to-read fuel gauge plus vehicle speed and coolant climate control so you can stay on top of your car’s efficiency at all times.
The 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata is a powerful convertible. Add in a robust engine and capable chassis, and you have a sports car that has plenty of performance to spare.
Explore the Safety Features of the Mazda CX-9

The 2019 Mazda CX-9 is a fitting addition to the family SUV segment, and one of the main features backing its credible performance is a suite of advanced safety systems Mazda collectively calls i-ACTIVSENSE. This collection boasts tools that are meant to keep passengers actively protected while preventing collisions. With such a solid safety net in tow, it’s no wonder the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded the Mazda CX-9 five stars for overall safety. Here’s a look at some of its top defense features.
Adaptive Front-Lighting System
While some drivers try to avoid hitting the road at night because of limited visibility, others can’t or simply won’t do it. In that case, it’s important to have a lighting system that can cover your line of view, especially when turning a corner, going over a bump, or approaching a pedestrian crosswalk. The Adaptive Front-Lighting System puts all your concerns at ease, thanks to headlights that extend up to 15 degrees in your turning path while activating an auto-leveling function to keep the light distribution steady and consistent.
Blind Spot Monitoring With Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
The radar-based Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert provides two functions: monitoring your blind spots when switching lanes or backing up and alerting you if there’s a vehicle on either side of you when reversing from a parking spot. If something does pop up, you’ll see a flashing icon on one of the two side mirrors, depending on which side the other vehicle is traveling, and a warning beep so you know to keep an eye out.
Mazda Radar Cruise Control With Stop and Go
This next feature is particularly effective during long road trips when you’ve got miles and miles of ground to cover but don’t always like putting in the effort of staying in line with traffic. Fortunately, Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop and Go lets you maintain a preset speed and keeps you within a safe distance from the cars in front. If traffic slows or stops, so will you, and you’ll always be aware of where you stand with the vehicle in front thanks to distance recognition support.
Smart Brake Support
Smart Brake Support is optional on the Sport trim and standard on the Touring and Grand Touring. What this feature does for your Mazda CX-9 is actively warn you if the car in front suddenly stops. If you’re at risk of a frontal collision, the system will automatically cut your speed, reduce engine output, and apply the brakes should you fail to react in time.
Lane Departure Warning System
If you’ve been on the road for a while and are experiencing driver fatigue, or you’ve simply gotten distracted by your phone, changing the radio station, or talking to someone else in the car, it’s understandable for your focus to sometimes drift. What you don’t want is for your SUV to drift into another lane with oncoming traffic. The Lane Departure Warning System acts as your guide and alerts you if you’ve started to creep into the next lane.
As you can see, the 2019 Mazda CX-9 will keep your peace of mind intact from start to finish, thanks to its incredibly innovative i-ACTIVSENSE technology.
Travel in Style in the 2019 Mazda 6
The All-New 2019 Mazda 6
Think of people who are not just good at their chosen craft, but those that rise above the rest of the pack as truly elite. What makes them so great? The answer is that they are not satisfied with simply being great. They want to be the best, the pinnacle of their profession, and they refuse to settle for anything less.
Mazda is a company that clearly separates itself from the rest, as evidenced by its 2019 Mazda 6. That vehicle has always been widely regarded as one of the best vehicles in its class. However, Mazda still found ways to push itself to make its signature sedan even better in several key areas.
Interior
The interior of the Mazda 6 is almost completely new and even more premium. The front seats are an all-new design. They are wider and contain more padding for maximum comfort. They are also available ventilated. Other new optional features are a reconfigurable instrument cluster, an infotainment touch screen, and a cool heads-up display that projects some information on the dashboard so that you don’t have to take your eyes off the road.
Exterior
Mazda has always been known in the automotive industry for vehicles with an incredibly stylish look. It has taken this to the next level with the 2019 Mazda 6. There is a new front grille and standard LED headlights on each side. There are also new 17- and 19-inch wheel designs and a new color, Sumptuous Soul Red Crystal, that looks as stunning as its name suggests.
Performance
The most significant changes in the new Mazda 6 have occurred in the area that matters most: improving an already solid driving experience. The engine is now available turbocharged, with the same 2.5-liter 4-turbo that’s used in the CX-9 crossover. If you use 87-octane fuel, you’re revving a 227-horsepower engine. If you choose to put in 93-octane fuel instead, you have an incredible 250 horses available at the touch of a pedal.
The engine isn’t the only way Mazda has improved the driving experience in the new Mazda 6. The steering rack is now mounted directly to the body, which leads to a better feel for the driver with fewer vibrations. Similarly, the suspension geometry has been tweaked to make for an even smoother ride, and the sound engineers have made improvements so that very little outside noise makes its way into the cab.
Like an all-world athlete who still gives her all at practice every single day so she can continue to dominate the competition or a world-class chef who continues to tinker with his signature recipe, Mazda refuses to let up. Most companies would have seen no way to improve upon the Mazda 6, already one of the most highly-regarded sedans in the world. But Mazda continues to innovate — and as a result, it continues to offer one of the most impressive pieces of machinery to ever leave an assembly line.
Mazda CX-9 in Rochester, MN
Let’s be honest: Most family cars are labeled as such simply because they are big enough to fit a lot of people. It’s rare to find a vehicle that truly has elements that every member of a family will enjoy. The Mazda CX-9 is an exception to that generality, however. The CX-9 actually does have something for everyone, from infants to adults and every age in between.
-
Infants
Of course, infants don’t really express strong opinions about the vehicles they ride in. However, if there is any mercy for you, they are sleeping during the vast majority of your driving. Luckily, the CX-9 makes for an incredibly smooth riding experience for its passengers, with its responsive steering and well-tuned suspension. The suspension, in fact, has been refined for the 2019 model to make the ride feel even more natural and to make it even quieter — obviously, a huge boost for any sleeping baby!
-
Children
What helps make a long trip more bearable for younger children? Entertainment, of course. The 2019 Mazda CX-9 has that covered, with the available incredible Rear Seat Entertainment System (RSES). The RSES features two high-definition screens, which can play the same content or different content (no more fighting over what to watch!) Also, it includes two pairs of wireless headphones to avoid the classic problem of loud and conflicting noise. What can you watch on the system? Really, anything. With a CD/DVD player, HDMI ports, a USB port, and SD card inputs, there’s virtually no media the RSES cannot support.
-
Teenagers
If your teenager is interested in devices and in looking his or her best, as many are, there’s no better vehicle than the CX-9. Besides the entertainment system previously mentioned, and available additional USB ports, the CX-9 has the capability of connecting to any phone, whether Apple or Android. However, what really sets it apart is that it’s considered to be a luxury vehicle, just at a more budget-friendly price. The exterior is sleek and modern and available in a variety of vibrant colors. The car’s signature interior is made of Nappa leather, Santos Rosewood, and sculpted aluminum.
-
Adults
Besides everything else listed, the adults in the vehicle will appreciate the cargo space, the performance, and the safety features of the Mazda CX-9. In terms of cargo space, you have 38 cubic feet with the third row folded down, which is plenty of room to pack anything you may need. The superior driving performance is easily apparent in the impressive handling and the up-to-250-horsepower engine. Plus, safety features abound in this impressive machine, so much so that both the IIHS and NHTSA gave the CX-9 top marks.
The bottom line is the 2019 Mazda CX-9 is a vehicle that fills every car trip, from a quick run to the store to a cross-country trek, with comfort, entertainment, style, and performance. Even though it’s a great vehicle for the whole family, no one will blame you if every once in a while, you sneak in a ride just for yourself.
