There are many reasons to opt for a crossover instead of a traditional car. With a higher ride height and plenty of cargo space, crossovers have become an appealing option for many buyers. The 2019 Mazda CX offers a range of three capable crossovers, ready for wherever life leads.
CX-3
The smallest and least expensive crossover offering is the CX-3. But despite its small size, it still has plenty to offer. Powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with Skyactiv technology, the CX-3 produces 148 horsepower and 146 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is optional.
The base Sport model comes well-equipped with power windows and locks, keyless entry, and push-button start. A 7-inch color touch screen is standard on the Mazda Connect infotainment system, which is Aha, Pandora, and Stitcher capable. Six speakers are standard, and a Bose 7-speaker premium audio system is optional.
Inside, there is seating for five or up to 44.5 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded (41.7 cubic feet in the Grand Touring model). A rear backup camera and Blind-Spot Information system are standard. Other options include radar cruise control, lane departure warning, LED headlights, automatic climate control, and rain-sensing wipers.
CX-5
Larger than the CX-3, the CX-5 offers seating for five and 59.6 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded. Available in five trim levels, the CX-5 can be equipped to suit any buyer.
The CX-5 is equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with cylinder deactivation, producing 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. A turbocharged four-cylinder is also available, producing up to 250 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is optional but standard on the Grand Touring Reserve and Signature models.
Inside, the CX-5 has plenty of comfort and technology features to offer. A 10-speaker Bose audio system with built-in navigation is available, as is Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration. Dual-zone automatic climate control is also available. The range-topping Signature model also features heated and ventilated front seats with heated rear seats.
CX-9
The largest of the Mazda crossovers is the CX-9. With seating for seven and available all-wheel drive, the CX-9 offers a family-sized alternative to the boring minivan. All models are powered by a 2.5-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which creates up to 250 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard; all-wheel drive is also available but standard on the Signature model.
The well-appointed interior offers enough space for the entire family, or up to 71.2 cubic feet of cargo space with the two rear rows folded. Three-zone automatic climate control ensures comfort for everyone, regardless of where the individual is sitting. All models also feature the Mazda Connect touch-screen infotainment system with either a 7- or 8-inch screen. A 12-speaker Bose audio system is also available.
As with the CX-5, a top-of-the-line Signature model is available with luxury features, including LED lighting, a power moonroof, power-folding exterior mirrors, Nappa leather, and real wood and aluminum trim.
