At a car show, you and your friends or family members can enjoy chrome bumpers, the rumbles of souped-up motors, unique custom wheels, pinstripes, and more. These events are fun for kids and adults, and they’re a great way to learn more about automotive history. Here are some upcoming car shows near southeast Minnesota.

- MN Cars & Coffee
MN Cars & Coffee is the largest monthly car show in the United States. Tyler Christopherson and Luis Fraguada founded it in 2008, and it features everything from American muscle cars, to Italian luxury models, to British classics. It’s also the starting spot of The Kannonball Rally. At the June show, 100 teams embark on a journey more than 300 miles long to raise money for local schools. There’s a canned food drive in July, and The KannonFALL Rally happens in fall to benefit The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
MN Cars & Coffee happens in Prior Lake, Minnesota, about an hour and 20 minutes away from Rochester. It starts at 7 a.m. and ends at 11 a.m. on May 2, June 6, July 4, August 1, September 5, and October 3 in 2020. Staging begins at 6:30 a.m. Attending and showing your car is free, and these shows will happen no matter what the weather is like.
- Hastings Historic Saturday Night Cruise-Ins
These popular cruise-ins happen every other Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Historic 2nd Street in downtown Hastings, about an hour away from Rochester. The Hastings Downtown Business Association runs them, and they’re open to all cars made in 1976 and before. Admission is free, and you can stroll on both sides of the street for many blocks while admiring an impressive collection of vintage cars. You can also enjoy a snack at a nearby food truck, listen to live music, shop at one of the stores in the area, or let your child have their face painted.
- The 47th Annual Back to the 50s Weekend
The Minnesota Street Rod Association (MSRA) will hold this fun annual car show at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds from June 19 to June 21, 2020. It will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and on Sunday it will be open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a swap meet along with the car show. In 2019, USA Today called this the Best Car Show for the third year in a row, and HotCars named it one of the 10 Car Shows in the U.S. You Should Definitely Attend in 2020. Visitors can see almost 12,000 classic vehicles and shop at more than 400 vendors.
