The Top Five Landmarks You Can Drive to From Rochester, MN

1928 Plummer Building

Our first stop is right in town. The famous Mayo Clinic is located right here in Rochester and the Plummer Building, the cornerstone of the complex, is a national historic landmark. Enjoy the picturesque bell tower and ornate architectural style of this beautiful fifteen-story building. Patients are no longer cared for in this building, however, it is still in use for administrative, support, and academic purposes. Come see this magnificent structure at 100 2nd Street SW.

National Farmer’s Bank

Try heading West in a new spacious yet zippy 2023 Mazda CX-50 for our next stop in Owatonna. Located at the corner of Broadway and Cedar Streets, The National Farmer’s Bank is also a designated national historic site. This grand building was designed by renowned architect, Louis H. Sullivan. The National Farmer’s Bank is thought to be one of Sullivan’s best works with its beautiful arch in the main facade and vaulted windows.

Frank B. Kellogg House

It’s time to go North to Saint Paul for our next stop. Don’t worry about gassing up again because your new Mazda CX-30 has great fuel economy! Located at 633 Fairmount Ave., this gorgeous house was once owned by Senator and Nobel Peace Prize recipient Frank B. Kellogg. This gigantic estate was made out of a variety of stones and was designated a national historic site in 1976.

Two Historic Mills

Now it’s off to Minneapolis, once the “Flour Milling Capital of the World”, to see two important historic mills. Let’s start with the Pillsbury “A” Mill located at 415 Main Street SE. It was once the largest and most advanced flour mill in the world but has since been turned into artist lofts. It has one of the best-preserved water systems in Minneapolis. You can even view a 50-foot drop shaft through a glass floor.

The second mill is the ruins of the Washburn “A” Mill which is now known as Mill City Museum. This national historic site sits at 704 South Second Street. The museum boasts special exhibits, tours, events, and even a farmer’s market on Saturdays. If you find lots of goodies from the artists and farmers at the market, don’t worry.
